What's involved

Cleaned back, then sealed

Most driveways don't need replacing. They need a proper clean, a few repairs and a fresh seal. Sun, rain, tyres, oil and mould wear the surface and the colour down over the years, and that surface is exactly what restoration deals with.

  1. Step 1: We look at it first

Before we quote we look at the driveway: what it's made of, what coating is on it now, how many cracks there are, and whether you want the same colour back or a new one. A photo through the form is a good start.

  2. Step 2: Pressure clean

The whole surface is pressure cleaned to lift dirt, mould, tyre marks and any old coating that's already letting go. A rotary surface cleaner keeps the clean even, so you don't end up with stripes.

  3. Step 3: Repairs

Cracks and damaged spots are cleaned out and filled where they need it, so water stops getting in under the surface. A repaired crack can still show a little through the finish, and we'll tell you that up front.

  4. Step 4: Re-seal or re-colour

Then it's sealed: clear to bring the existing colour back up, or tinted to change it completely. Stencilled driveways keep their pattern under the new colour.

  5. Step 5: Let it cure

The sealer needs time to cure before cars go back on it. We'll give you the time for the product used on your driveway, rather than a guess.

Before & after

Same driveway, new life

The same driveway after: one even, freshly sealed colour from the garage door to the kerb
A front driveway before: washed-out, blotchy patches of old coating across the concrete
Before After

Driveway re-seal

Blotchy to one colour

Old coating had worn off in patches from the garage door to the kerb. Cleaned back, then sealed in a single even colour across the whole slab.

The same driveway after: re-coloured a deep blue-grey right up to the garage door, the stencil pattern still showing
A stencilled driveway before, faded to a dusty pink in front of a double garage and a caravan
Before After

Driveway re-colour

Pink out, blue-grey in

A stencilled driveway faded to a dusty pink, re-coloured a deep blue-grey. The stencil pattern is still there under the new colour.

What it suits

Is it right for your driveway?

Plain concrete drives
Coloured & stencilled
Pebblecrete drives
Paths & patios too

Restoration suits a driveway that's structurally sound but looks tired: patchy colour, coating worn off where the tyres run, mould in the shady corners, oil or rust marks near the garage. Paths, patios and the front step can usually be done at the same time, so the whole front of the house matches.

It's also a common job before a house goes on the market. The driveway is one of the first things anyone sees from the street, and a clean, even surface makes the whole front look looked-after.

What it won't fix is a slab that's badly broken, sinking or lifting. That's a concrete problem, not a surface one, and we'll say so when we look at it rather than sell you a re-seal that won't last.

Common questions

Driveway restoration, straight answers

Anything not covered here, call 0438 708 830 and ask.

Is it worth restoring an old driveway instead of replacing it?

Usually, yes, as long as the concrete underneath is still sound. Restoration deals with the surface (faded colour, stains, mould and small cracks), and it's a much smaller job than breaking the driveway out and pouring a new one. If the slab is badly broken, sinking or lifting, a re-seal won't fix that, and we'll tell you so when we look at it.

Can you change the colour of my driveway when you restore it?

Yes. A driveway can be re-sealed in the colour it started with or in a completely new one. Stencilled driveways keep their pattern under the new colour: the before-and-after on this page went from a faded pink to a deep blue-grey.

Will pressure cleaning damage my driveway?

Not when it's done properly. A rotary surface cleaner spreads the pressure evenly, so it cleans without carving lines into the surface the way a wand held too close can. Any old coating that's already loose will come off, which is what you want before a re-seal.

How soon can I drive on a resealed driveway?

It depends on the sealer and the weather, so we'll give you the time for your job rather than a number off the internet. Sealers need to cure before tyres go back on them, and walking on it is usually fine well before driving on it. Plan on parking on the street for a little while.

Why can't you give me a driveway restoration price over the phone?

Because the price depends on things we need to see: the size, the condition, how many cracks need repairing and whether it's staying the same colour. Send a photo through the form or call 0438 708 830, and we'll look at it before we quote.
