Around Redcliffe

Older concrete by the bay

Redcliffe is on the Redcliffe Peninsula, facing Moreton Bay, and it's one of the longer-established parts of the region. That means plenty of concrete that has been down a long time, often with a history of coatings, patches and repairs.

Older concrete near the coast can show a few of the things acid washing is used for: efflorescence on slabs and paths that stay damp, mineral deposits, and grime worked deep into a surface that hasn't been sealed in years. It can also be the step that opens up a tired surface before a fresh seal goes on.

Age brings caution as well. Many older driveways and patios carry old sealers or paint, and an acid wash can't get through those. Some older surfaces are also worn enough that taking more off the top isn't a good idea. We'll check before recommending anything.

What we'll look at

Checked before washing

Near the water and on older concrete, these are what we look at before acid washing a Redcliffe surface.

  • Old coatings

Paint or sealer from past jobs blocks an acid wash. If it's there, it has to come off first, or a different approach suits better.

  • How worn the surface is

Acid washing takes a thin layer off. On concrete that's already worn, we may advise against it.

  • Damp, shaded areas

Concrete that stays damp is where efflorescence and mould tend to show. We work out which one it is, because they're treated differently.

  • Sealing afterwards

Acid-washed concrete is left open and more absorbent. Near the coast, a seal afterwards is worth considering.

Step by step, start to finish: how acid washing works.

Common questions

Asked in Redcliffe

Anything not covered here, call 0438 708 830 and ask.

Can acid washing fix old, grubby concrete at my Redcliffe house?

Sometimes. If the concrete is plain, unsealed and marked with deposits like efflorescence or residue, acid washing can make a real difference. If it's coated, coloured or badly worn, something else will usually suit it better, and we'll tell you which.

Should I seal my Redcliffe concrete after acid washing?

It's worth considering, especially near the coast. Acid washing leaves the surface open and more absorbent, so it takes up moisture, salt and stains more easily until it's sealed. The open surface also helps a sealer grip.

Is it mould or efflorescence on my Redcliffe patio?

Mould is usually dark, green or black and grows in the shade; efflorescence is white and powdery and brushes off when it's dry. Mould generally comes off with a pressure clean, while efflorescence is one of the things acid washing is used for. Send us a photo and we'll take a look.

Do you come out to Redcliffe for acid washing?

Yes. Redcliffe and the rest of the peninsula are part of the area we cover from Burpengary. Call 0438 708 830 or send through a photo of the concrete using the form.
